Punjab govt, CPEC Authority agree to promote agriculture research

LAHORE: The Punjab government and China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) Authority have agreed to promote seed development and research related to the agriculture sector.

The development came during a meeting between CPEC Authority Chairman Asim Saleem Bajwa with Punjab Chief Minister (CM) Usman Buzdar on Tuesday wherein they exchanged views on ongoing projects under the mega economic corridor in the province.

Buzdar and Bajwa agreed on the construction of China Centre CPEC Tower in Lahore to promote seed development and research related to the agriculture sector.

The chief minister detailed that information desks will be established for industrialists at CPEC Tower where all details regarding the Chinese industries will be provided under one roof.

He vowed that the provincial government will assist Chinese investors to establish industries in the province, adding that 13,000 acres of land will be used for research on seed development and agriculture.

He asked authorities to ensure implementation of guidelines for industrial development and table recommendations for the resolution of issues to the industrialists and also issued directives to finalise regulations for industrial development at the earliest.

On the occasion, Bajwa said that CPEC has key importance in the stability of Pakistan’s economy therefore development work on its projects has been expedited.

He highlighted that the country will benefit from Chinese expertise in the agriculture sector which holds major opportunities for economic growth.
