ISLAMABAD: In line with the prime minister’s promise to the small & medium industries, the National Electric Power Regulatory Authority (NEPRA) has decided to decrease industrial tariff by Rs4.96 per unit.
According to NEPRA, the commercial electricity price for small industries has been reduced from Rs12.96 to Rs8 per unit, effective from November 1, 2020.
The new tariff, which is for entire country except Karachi, will be applicable for a period of eight months, till June 30, 2021.
Sources in the power sector informed that NEPRA has forwarded its decision to federal government, after which a notification will be issued pursuant to Section 31 (7) of the Regulation of Generation, Transmission and Distribution of Electric Power Act, 1997.
“NEPRA has ratified the government’s package for industrial consumers by deciding to decrease the electricity price for industries,” an insider said. “The government will grant Rs14 billion worth subsidy against this facility.”
However, electricity tariff for big industries will remain at Rs12.96 per unit.
Fuel price adjustment will be applicable on the new tariff, whereas quarterly adjustment will not be applicable, sources said.
It is pertinent to mention that Prime Minister Imran Khan had earlier announced to give 50pc concession to small industries over usage of additional electricity from November 1, 2020.
