The government has set targets to introduce 20 per cent renewable energy by 2025, and 30pc by end of 2030.
This was shared by Special Assistant to Prime Minister on Petroleum (SAPM) Nadeem Babar during a meeting with United Kingdom High Commissioner in Pakistan Dr Christian Turner at the Petroleum Division on Thursday.
The SAPM was briefing the British official about structural reforms being carried out in the energy sector in view of the newly promulgated Renewable Energy Policy.
“Pakistan will have the cleanest generation mix with an additional share of 30-40pc hydel power generation,” he said.
Babar also apprised the envoy that the government is focusing on manufacturing and assembling wind turbines and solar panels for renewable energy projects with the collaboration of foreign companies and invited British companies to participate in these projects as well.
During the meeting, the British high commissioner told the SAPM that British companies have shown interest in investing in Pakistan’s energy sector, especially in off grids solutions and distributed generation system.
The envoy also urged Pakistani businesses to utilise the approximately $1.5 billion of credit line for export credit facility which he said remains largely unused.
