Chinese companies in Pakistan seek permission for workers’ vaccination

KARACHI: Two Chinese companies in Pakistan — the China Zhongyuan Engineering Corporation (CZEC) and the China Ocean Engineering Construction General Bureau (COECG) — have sought permission from the government to arrange coronavirus vaccination for their Chinese workers.

“The companies have sought permission from the government of Pakistan to import 10,000 vials of the vaccine from China,” said a letter received by the health ministry. “The companies will vaccinate their 5,000 Chinese workers stationed in Karachi.”

All arrangements for the administration of the Chinese-made Sinovac vaccine would be made by the said companies, the letter read.

Sources said the Ministry of Health has asked the Drug Regulatory Authority of Pakistan (DRAP) to submit its opinion over the request made by the two Chinese firms.

Meanwhile, the University of Health Sciences (UHS) on Wednesday held a ceremony to mark the completion of 3,000 clinical trials of a Chinese vaccine.

UHS Vice Chancellor Prof Javed Akram along with Chinese experts celebrated the milestone by cutting a cake. The vice chancellor felicitated the experts over completion of successful trials of the vaccine.
