PESHAWAR: The government has decided to reduce custom taxes on Afghan origin goods imported into the country via Torkham and Chaman borders for the period of three months.
In this regard, the Sarhad Chamber of Commerce and Industry (SCCI), while welcoming the move, said that it would bolster mutual trade relations and urged the Afghan to do the same for Pakistani goods being imported into their country as well.
The chamber emphasised that both Islamabad and Kabul should make serious efforts to enhance the mutual trade volume between the two countries, which currently stands at less than $1 billion.
The SCCI said that acceleration in trade and economic activities between Pakistan and Afghanistan would strengthen the economy of both countries, besides create new job avenues and improve the national revenue and improve Pakistan exports to central Asian countries via Afghanistan as well.
They urged both Islamabad and Kabul to take the chamber and business community on board before formulation and enforcement of policies, particularly important joint trade collaboration like, new ATTA – Afghan Transit Trade Agreement so that would bring positive impacts of those policies.
