Economic indicators showing positive trajectory: Faraz

ISLAMABAD: Federal Minister for Information and Broadcasting, Senator Shibli Faraz has said that economic indicators are showing a positive trajectory as exports of the country are increasing swiftly due to prudent policies of the government.

Talking to a private news channel, the information minister said that the economy of the country is flourishing despite the coronavirus pandemic. He said that previous Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N) government left the national economy in a fragile situation, but the incumbent government has now put it back on right track.

Replying to a question, Faraz said that the opposition parties are creating instability in the country, but they will not succeed in their designs.

He said that opposition parties are criticising the national institutions as a pressure tactic against the government. He criticised the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM) for purported intentions of sieging public institutions.

The minister said that leaders of the opposition parties would gain nothing if they try to pressurise national institutions like the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) or the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP).

He demanded the opposition to tell the ECP and NAB about their assets and ill-gotten money.

Last Saturday, Adviser to the Prime Minister on Commerce and Investment Abdul Razak Dawood expressed his satisfaction that the exports in December last year have shown an increase of 18.3 per cent to the tune of $2,357 million as compared to $1,993 million in December 2019.

Presiding over a consultative meeting in Islamabad, he said that export figures show the resilience of the economy of Pakistan and is a vindication of the government’s policy to keep the wheels of economy running despite the Covid-19 pandemic.

The previous six months performance of exports was also discussed in the meeting.

Dawood also paid glowing tributes to exporters for this performance during testing times and urged them to aggressively focus on capturing a larger share of international exports.
