TMAs in tribal districts facing financial crisis

PESHAWAR: As many as 17 Tehsil Municipal Administrations (TMAs) in the tribal districts are facing a financial crisis due to insufficient funds disbursed by the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) Finance Department.

As a result of the financial crisis, employees of the TMAs have not been paid their salaries whereas local government department officials have expressed fear that counter coronavirus measures in the districts would also be affected.

According to Local Council Board sources, Rs542.617 million has been allocated for ongoing expenditures of 25 TMAs of tribal districts for FY21, out of which the government was urged to disperse Rs271.39 million in the first instalment, however, the government released Rs70.4 million.

“TMAs are working as the first force in the operation against the coronavirus pandemic,” they reminded, requesting the provincial government to release the remaining Rs199.8 million on a priority basis.

According to sources, the board has requested the government to release Rs9 million for Navagai, Rs9 million for Wazir, Rs2.74 million for Jamrud, Rs9 million for Bara, Rs1.47 million for Dara Adamkhel, Rs9 million for Central Kurram, Rs9 million for Bethani, Rs1.47 million for Upper Mohmand, and Rs9 million for Razmak.

Similarly, it has been requested that Rs9 million be released for Mir Ali, Rs9 million for Hassan Khel, Rs9 million for Ladha, Rs2.74 million for Wana, Rs9 million for Jandola, Rs5 million for Lower Kurram, Rs10 million for Upper Kurram, and Rs10 million for Miranshah.
