KP govt bans transfers, registries in illegal residential colonies

The police have also been directed to take legal action against the illegal housing schemes

PESHAWAR: Owing to the directives of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government, the Peshawar district administration has banned all kinds of transfers and registries of plots in 181 illegal residential colonies.

The illegal residential colonies include 25 illegal housing societies in Tehsil City, 123 in Tehsil Shah Alam, 24 in Tehsil Saddar and nine in Tehsil Matani.

Abid Khan, a resident of Peshawar, said the provincial government’s crackdown on illegal housing schemes has put billions of rupees at risk.  Khan added that the majority of housing schemes in KP include societies started during the previous government without no objection certificates (NOCs). He further said the government should have inform the people before taking such decision as the people had invested billions of rupees in these societies.

According to the Peshawar district administration, action has been initiated against the 181 illegal housing societies in the district and the decision was taken in the light of the directives of the provincial government. With the order, all kinds of transfers and registries in these illegal housing societies have been banned.

The district administration said that the police have also been directed to take legal action against the illegal housing schemes.
