Sindh Minister for Information and Local Government Syed Nasir Hussain Shah on Friday said that the province will start a Covid-19 vaccination drive from February 3.
“Front line healthcare workers will be inoculated during the first phase of the vaccination drive. The Sindh health department has allocated Rs1.5 billion for Covid-19 vaccine,” Nasir said while addressing a press conference at the Sindh Assembly.
He said the federal government has received about 500,000 vaccine doses from China and out of which, Sindh has received 82,359 doses. “The Sindh chief minister has earmarked a separate budget for the purpose. He has also written a letter to Prime Minister Imran Khan regarding the procurement of the vaccine. In the beginning, vaccines will be distributed in 10 districts of the province. We want to vaccinate the people of Sindh free of charge. The Centre is yet to permit the Sindh government to purchase the vaccine,” the minister added.
KARACHI COLLEGES REPORT SURGE IN COVID-19 CASES:
A surge in coronavirus cases has been reported in government colleges across the metropolis, according to a private news channel.
Reportedly, 58 staff members of Sir Syed Government Girls College, 21 staff members of Shaheed Millat Girls College and one teacher of Aga Khan Government College have been tested positive for coronavirus.
