RAWALPINDI: Chief of Army Staff (COAS) General Qamar Javed Bajwa and British High Commissioner Dr Christian Turner discussed Afghan peace process on Friday.
Dr Turner called on the army chief at General Headquarters (GHQ), said the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).
Matters of mutual interest, overall regional security situation and Afghan peace process were discussed during the meeting, said the military’s media wing.
The COAS thanked the high commissioner for the United Kingdom’s contribution towards fight against Covid-19 in Pakistan.
Earlier in December last, Dr Turner called on General Bajwa and praised the Army’s role in the Afghan peace process.
According to ISPR, “The visiting dignitary appreciated Pakistan Army’s role in Afghan peace process and maintaining peace and stability in the region.”
Earlier on January 29, Foreign Minister Shah Mahmood Qureshi had said that the Afghan peace process must be protected from the elements that are trying to disrupt it.
Addressing a webinar through a video link, Qureshi had said that the positive momentum of the inter-Afghan dialogue must be maintained and this historic opportunity must not be missed. He had also underlined that the world community should urge all parties to agree on ways to reduce the violence that could lead to a ceasefire.
