Mazari calls for protection of human rights

ISLAMABAD: Minister for Human Rights Shireen Mazari said on Monday the government is focusing on enforcement of the laws pertaining to the protection of human rights.

Addressing a ceremony in Islamabad, she said that child labour has been proscribed through legislation. She also said that the provincial governments will also be requested to follow the suit.

Mazari said that Pakistan has one of the most progressive laws protecting the rights of transgenders and added progress has been made to implement it.

“A transgender center is being established to extend help to this community,” she said.

The minister said that under Juvenile Justice System Act, 2018, juvenile courts have been established in Islamabad, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) and Punjab.

Other laws such as those relating to senior citizens, journalists, persons with disabilities and minorities are also on the cards, she disclosed.

Mazari said that campaigns have been launched to create awareness amongst the people about child abuse and women inheritance rights.
