KARACHI: Sindh chapter of the Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) on Thursday approved the nomination of all 22 candidates of the Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) from Sindh for the Senate elections.
The commission will now scrutinise the papers of the candidates submitted for 11 Senate seats of the general category as well as the seats under the technocrat and women categories.
Seperately, the authority has summoned Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) leader and Minister for Water Resources Faisal Vawda, Grand Democratic Alliance’s (GDA) Syed Sadaruddin Rashidi, Muttahida Qaumi Movement-Pakistan’s (MQM-P) Amir Khan and other senate hopefuls.
The PPP has issued tickets to Taj Haider, Shahadat Awan, Jam Mehtab Hussain Dahar, incumbent Senate deputy chair Salim Mandviwalla and Sherry Rehman for Sindh’s general seats.
For the technocrat seats, tickets were awarded to Farooq H. Naek, Karim Ahmed Khawaja and Shahadat Awan, while for the women’s seat, Palwasha Khan, Khairunisa Mughal and Rukhsana Shah have been fielded.
A total of 48 Senators will be elected this time including 12 each from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan, eleven each from Sindh and Punjab, and two from Islamabad.
