Bilawal dares PM to uphold promise of dissolving assembly

'Is Kaptaaan scared of elections?' the PPP chairman says on Twitter

Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman  Bilawal Bhutto-Zardari on Thursday called out Prime Minister Imran Khan to uphold his promise of dissolving the assembly if the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (PTI) lost the Senate seat in Islamabad.

“The PM had promised to dissolve the assembly if he lost the Islamabad Senate seat. He lost. We won. Now what’s stopping him? Is Kaptaaan scared of elections?” the PPP chairman said on Twitter.

“After backtracking from the statement of dissolving the assembly, he is now creating a new drama by seeking a vote of confidence from the parliament,” he added.

Bilawal claimed that the prime minister was afraid of elections now that he has been rejected by his own members of National Assembly (MNAs) and allies.

“You will not be able to escape. We will not give you an NRO. And we will not spare you,” he said while addressing a press conference alongside the winner of the Senate seat and PPP senior leader Yousaf Raza Gillani.

Bilawal went on to say that the “incompetent, illegal government” only brought pain and suffering for the people of Pakistan and claimed that “every citizen of the country celebrated the victory of the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM)” after Gillani defeated PTI’s Abdul Hafeez Shaikh in the Senate elections.

He claimed that the people of Pakistan were happy to be rid of this “puppet government.”

“You will not be making decisions any more,” Bilawal said to PM Imran. “I will tell you when and where will the no-confidence movement take place.”

He asserted that the Pakistan Democratic Movement (PDM), which had backed Gillani in the elections a day earlier, would continue its battle against the ruling party, adding that no one would be able to save the PTI now.

Separately, Bilawal on Thursday contacted Hamza Shehbaz on the telephone and congratulated the opposition leader in Punjab Assembly over the victory of the PDM joint candidate Yousuf Raza Gillani in the Senate elections.

The PPP and PML-N leaders agreed to speed up the joint struggle from the platform of the PDM.

A day earlier, the PPP chief had once again called for Prime Minister Imran’s resignation.

Speaking alongside newly-elected senator, Gillani, the PPP chief had said that the former prime minister would be their candidate for the Senate chairman slot, and they would get him elected to the coveted post.

In a reference to his mother Benazir Bhutto’s famous statement, the scion of the Bhutto dynasty had said that whatever injustice of oppression they had gone through, it has been proved that democracy is the best revenge.

“Everyone has seen the result of no-confidence in the government’s policies,” he said, adding that the prime minister should now resign. We will now be attacking the incumbent government from every side and will send them packing as soon as possible,” the PPP chairman had said.

He had claimed that “a new era is starting in Pakistan’s democratic journey”. He thanked the PDM leadership and said that Gillani’s win was a win for all democratic forces in Pakistan. “This puppet government has lost from its own parliament and the people of Pakistan have won.”

Speaking on the occasion, Gillani had thanked all parties of the PDM for supporting him in securing a win on the Senate seat. “PDM won all the Senate elections, besides also winning the key seat of Senate from Islamabad,” he had said, adding that PML-N supreme leader Nawaz Sharif has congratulated him on the win and they would visit Shehbaz to meet him soon.
