LEAs destroy 200 hideouts of dacoits in Shikarpur operation

Police set up check posts in troubled areas

An anti-bandit operation in Shikarpur is underway and the police have burnt down 200 safe havens of dacoits, Pakistan Today learnt on Friday.

According to a report, the law enforcement authorities continued their operation against the dacoits in Garhi Teghu and Katcha area of Khanpur on Friday. As many as 200 shelter places belonging to the bandits were burnt down during the operation.

The police set up their check posts in the troubled areas and the authorities placed the areas under curfew for the sixth consecutive day while the residents, who were earlier advised to stay indoors, chanted slogans in favour of Pakistan and Sindh police.

The commandos, who were called from Karachi, also participated in the operation along with several armoured vehicles.

The police cleared and took control of all the troubled areas, which were earlier occupied by the dacoits illegally for harvesting their crops.

On Thursday, the federal and Sindh governments had decided to work in unison to restore peace and security in the province in the wake of fierce attack by bandits on the police personnel in the Katcha area.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed Ahmed had met with Sindh Chief Minister Syed Murad Ali Shah in Karachi to deliberate on the security situation.

The interior minister had offered federal government’s help to the chief minister, saying Rangers will be at the disposal of Sindh government, if the province wants Rangers’ deployment in the operation.

Murad had told the interior minister that the provincial government need some sophisticated equipment for the operation and the interior ministry can help Sindh in this regard.

Rasheed had assured him of his ministry’s full cooperation for the restoration of peace in the province.

CM Murad was certain that soon the Katcha area would be vacated from the bandits.
