Fourth wave feared after surge in Covid-19 cases

ISLAMABAD: National positivity rate of Covid-19 has risen to over six percent, raising a serious concern of a fourth wave in the country, according to the data released by the National Command and Operation Centre on Friday.

A total of 2,327 people tested positive for the disease on Thursday, raising the tally of infections to 983,719, the NCOC, the nerve centre against the disease, said in a statement.

Sindh has been the worst hit, with 352,472 cases, followed by Punjab where the disease was detected in 349,475 people.

A total of 22,720 people died of the disease, including 31 patients who died over the last 24 hours, the NCOC said, adding that critical 2,388 patients are currently under treatment in 639 hospitals across the country.

A total of 917,329 have recovered from the disease in the country, the statement added.

The vaccination drive in the country has also picked up the pace with 583,655 doses administered to the public on Thursday, the NCOC said.

Some 17,336,845 people have been partially vaccinated and 4,323,805 others fully vaccinated against Covid-19 in the country, according to the latest official data.
