LAHORE: Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz chief Shehbaz Sharif on Friday condemned the increase in the prices of petroleum products.
In a tweet, the National Assembly opposition leader said the Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf government has set another record as the petrol prices have hit an average all-time high.
Thursday’s was the highest-ever petrol rate, as per available official record, as it previously peaked at Rs117.83 per litre in August 2019.
“For the first time in history, the prices of petroleum products have touched an all-time high,” Sharif tweeted.
The reality of the tax-free budget of the government has been revealed, he added.
A notification issued by the Finance Division announced the ex-depot price of petrol was increased by Rs5.40 per litre and that of high-speed diesel by Rs2.54 per litre.
On the other hand, the ex-depot price of kerosene was increased by Rs1.39 a litre and that of light diesel oil by Rs1.27 a litre.
The ex-depot rate of petrol was fixed at Rs118.09 per litre instead of Rs112.69 per litre at present, showing an increase of 4.8 percent.
