Schools in Sindh to reopen with 50pc attendance from Aug 23

Sindh Education Minister Syed Sardar Ali Shah on Tuesday said that the schools in the province would be reopened with 50 percent attendance from August 23.

The decision was taken during a meeting of the Sindh education department’s steering committee, which was held in Karachi under the chairmanship of Syed Sardar Ali Shah.

Parliamentary Secretary on Health Qasim Soomro and the representatives of unions of parents and schools attended the meeting.

The education minister said that the schools would be reopened with strict adherence to Covid-19 standard operating procedures (SOPs), reiterating that the parents would have to submit vaccination certificates to the respective schools.

“Sudden [and] random PCR (polymerase chain reaction) tests will be conducted as well,” he added.

The meeting of the steering committee was convened to take a final decision on whether the schools in the province should be reopened from August 23 or not.

The officials of the health department briefed the meeting about the Covid-19 situation in the province and also suggested that schools should be reopened with 50 percent attendance.

The participants suggested that educational institutions with 100 percent vaccination should be allowed to reopen.

The Sindh government had closed schools across the province on July 24 due to the rising number of Covid-19 cases although it had said that exams would take place according to schedule.

Last week, the education minister had said schools would remain closed till August 19.
