Blogger advised to extend hospital stay

ISLAMABAD: Doctors treating a Pakistan-based US blogger have advised her to extend her stay at the hospital since the reports of her laboratory tests are yet to be received, a report citing sources said on Saturday.

Residing in an apartment in Diplomatic Enclave, a heavily guarded neighbourhood that houses foreign missions, Cynthia Ritchie was spotted by a neighbour semi-conscious outside her residence and immediately shifted to Polyclinic Hospital.

At the hospital, doctors examined her and provided her with medical assistance. Her stomach was washed as there were traces of intoxication, the police said.

A report quoting sources said Ritchie told police that she was intoxicated by two people at her house.

“They came to her residence and introduced themselves as Indian nationals before asking her to stop working in Pakistan,” the source said. In response, an argument erupted between Ritchie and the visitors and the latter forcefully gave her some drugs, he added.

Today, doctors inspected her and observed significant improvement in her condition.

The doctors were waiting for the toxicology report of the samples sent for examination. The process will take a few days, the hospital added.

The report will confirm if the blogger was poisoned, it said.

Originally from Louisiana, Ritchie has been a resident of Pakistan for close to a decade. She describes herself as a blogger and a filmmaker working for “A Different Lens Production”, a purported filmmaking company.
