Maryam’s son walks down the aisle in London

LONDON: Junaid Safdar, the son of Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz vice president Maryam Nawaz and former MP Safdar Awan, tied the knot in an intimate ceremony held on Sunday at The Lanesborough, a swanky hotel in central London.

The bride, Ayesha Saif Khan, is the daughter of Saifur Rehman, a former senator who headed the Ehtesab Bureau, the predecessor of National Accountability Bureau, from 1997 to 1999 during the second tenure of deposed prime minister Nawaz Sharif.

The trimmed guest list featured Rehman, former finance minister Ishaq Dar and his sons and Sharif who earlier this month informed the Lahore High Court of his inability to return to the country as his doctors have advised him to avoid air travel and stay in close proximity to the healthcare facilities until the Covid-19 crisis is over.

Safdar’s parents, both of whom are facing graft cases and were not allowed to leave the country, were on a video call with the groom during the event.

A small group of people staged a protest against Sharif outside the venue, with PML-N activists intervening to disperse the demonstrators.
