Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz President and Opposition Leader of National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Sunday said that Pakistan cannot prosper if there is no prosperity in Karachi, adding that a political party has acted unfairly with the port city in the last three years.
The PML-N president, while addressing party workers in NA-249, said that the extraordinary Karachi which is an economic as well a cultural hub has accommodated every type of person with open arms. Shehbaz Sharif added that he prays to Allah to change the fate of the port city in his life.
The teary-eyed opposition leader said that Karachi had been receiving a “step-motherly treatment,” from the Centre, adding that the entire country’s development is linked with that of Karachi.
He further said that the city which generates revenue of trillions annually is struggling to even find one gallon of water. If PML-N is given a chance, the party under the leadership of Nawaz Sharif will transform the city, he claimed.
The opposition leader further said that Nawaz Sharif freed the city from sack-packed bodies and extortion and brought back peace in the metropolis. It was a big achievement of PML-N supremo but one political party is oppressing the nation for the last three years, he added.
During his Karachi trip, the PML-N president paid visited the homes of political leaders to extend his condolences over deaths in their families.
Shehbaz met the sons of the former president late Mamnoon Hussain at their home. He said Hussain’s services for the party and democracy would be remembered for a long time. Hussain was a straightforward, ideological and knowledgeable personality, he said.
The PML-N President also visited the residence of the former governor of Sindh, the late Mumtaz Ali Bhutto and extended his condolences to his son Amir Bakhsh Bhutto and other members of their family. He offered prayers for the late governor and said he played a key role in Sindh’s politics and was part of many important events of history.
The National Assembly Opposition Leader also went to the residence of Jalal Mahmood Shah, son of GM Syed to express his grief over the demise of his brother Amir Haider Shah. He prayed for the late Shah and strength for his family to brave the loss. He said GM Syed played a crucial role in the creation of Pakistan.
The PML-N resident went to Kingri House and met with the Head of Muslim League Functional and Spiritual Leader of the Hurs Pir Syed Sibghatullah Shah Pir Pagara.
He extended his condolences to him and his brother Syed Sadruddin Shah over the demise of their mother and prayed for her afterlife. He also expressed his grief to Pir Pagara over his wife’s death. Pir Pagara’s son Syed Rashid Shah was also present.
Shehbaz said he had lost his mother too and could relate to the pain and grief of the family. He said the Pagara family, their ancestors and their hurs played an unforgettable role against the autocracy. He paid tribute to them for their services and sacrifices for Pakistan.
