Detention of suspect in Noor murder extended

ISLAMABAD: A district and sessions court in Islamabad Monday extended until September 6 the judicial remand of the prime suspect in the murder of the daughter of a former ambassador.

Noor Mukadam, 27, was found murdered at the residence of one Zahir Zakir in Sector F-7/4 of Islamabad in July. Zakir, widely believed to be the killer, was arrested the same day for his purported involvement in the gruesome incident.

A first information report registered on the complaint of Ambassador Shaukat Ali Mukadam, Mukadam’s father, nominated Zakir under Section 302 (premeditated murder) of the Pakistan Penal Code.

Zakir was presented before the magistrate Monday after the completion of his previous two-week remand period.

Earlier this month, the police have disclosed that the DNA test and fingerprints of the accused showed his involvement in the murder.

They said that photogrammetry tests conducted on a video in which Mukaddam was seen making efforts to save her life and being chased by the accused confirmed that it was genuine.

The footage had been sent to the Punjab Forensic Science Agency in Lahore to confirm its authenticity.
