ISLAMABAD: Those who are planning to travel abroad are eligible for a booster shot of Covid-19 vaccines from September 1 (Wednesday) while the frontline healthcare workers and patients suffering from chronic diseases are expected to get these from October, an health official said on Monday.
The booster shots will be given to strengthen the receiver’s defence system against the Delta variant of the contagious disease, Parliamentary Secretary for National Health Services Dr Nausheen Hamid said while speaking to a news channel.
The government was considering to start booster shots — a plan which, if approved, would commence from October 1, Hamid announced.
She warned that due to the casual attitude displayed by the general public, the active cases had increased. The people should cooperate with the government and compliance with standard operating procedures should be strictly ensured, she added.
The rate of daily vaccinations has significantly increased and over one million doses were being inoculated on a daily basis, Hamid recalled.
She said the National Command and Operation Centre has also expanded its coronavirus-related restrictions to 27 cities. NCOC would conduct a review of these measures on September 13 and would take further decisions in accordance with the latest situation.
Hamid also appealed to the public to cooperate with the government and exhibit responsibility towards ensuring the implementation of guidelines.
