Pakistan People’s Party (PPP) Chairman Bilawal Bhutto Zardari held a telephonic conversation with Leader of the Opposition in the National Assembly Shehbaz Sharif on Saturday, during which the two spoke about appointments to the Election Commission of Pakistan’s vacant posts and overall political situation of country.
Last week, Prime Minister (PM) Imran Khan had informed the opposition leader regarding the vacant ECP appointments due to the retirement of two members from Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) on July 26.
PM has nominated Ahsan Mehboob, Raja Aamir Khan and Syed Pervaiz Abbas from Punjab while Ikramullah Khan, Faridullah Khan and Muzammil Khan have been recommended from KP.
According to the statements issued by PPP and the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N), Bilawal and Shehbaz discussed the matter and agreed to put a united front.
Bilawal and Shehbaz also agreed to “go to whatever extent it takes” to oppose the government’s proposed Pakistan Media Development Authority.
According to a report, the Opposition agreed to have a joint stance on President Arif Alvi’s speech during a joint session of the parliament that kicks off its fourth year.
Meanwhile, the PPP, which also issued a statement following the meeting, said that the two, besides the appointment of the ECP members, also discussed the overall political situation in the country.
