Hearing in petition against Gillani, son postponed

ISLAMABAD: There was no further progress in a petition filed in the Election Commission of Pakistan seeking the disqualification of Pakistan Peoples Party leader Yousaf Raza Gillani and his son Ali Haider Gillani due to the absence of the plaintiff.

A two-member bench, consisting of Nisar Durrani and Shah Muhammad Jatoi, heard the petition filed by Minister of State for Information and Broadcasting Farrukh Habib and Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf MP Aliya Hamza Malik.

A representative of Barrister Ali Zafar, counsel for the petitioners, appeared in the court on his behalf and said Zafar was busy in connection with another case.

Counsel for the Gillanis, however, argued the Senate elections could not be declared null and void since two months have been passed. He requested the court to see to it whether the petition was admissible for hearing.

The ECP then adjourned the hearing until October 11.
