Opposition parties protest against rising petroleum prices

Opposition parties on Friday staged a protest in the National Assembly (NA) on account of increasing prices of petroleum products.

During the session, members of the opposition gathered around the seat of NA Speaker Asad Qaiser and demanded that the decision related to increasing petroleum prices be retracted.

Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz’s (PML-N) leader Khawaja Asif led the protest and announced to boycott the session after which the speaker adjourned the proceedings.

Earlier on Friday, a similar protest was also witnessed in the Punjab Assembly where members of the opposition raised slogans against increase in petroleum prices.

Earlier the government had increased the price of petrol by Rs4 per litre to Rs127.20 effective from October 1 (Friday), following fluctuations in the exchange rate and global oil prices.

The decision was made as per the recommendation of Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority (OGRA).

The prices of high-speed diesel (HSD) was enhanced by Rs2 per litre to Rs122.04 per litre. The price of kerosene oil was also increased by Rs7.02 per litre to Rs99.31.

In addition, the price of light diesel oil was increased by Rs8.82 to Rs99.51 per litre.
