The body of veteran comedian Umer Sharif will reach Karachi on Wednesday morning through a Turkish airline’s flight.
Sharif’s widow Zareen Gazal will also reach the port city via the flight.
The Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) has made necessary arrangements at the airport’s cargo terminal. Upon arrival, the body will be shifted to a mortuary.
His funeral prayers will be held at Clifton park in the Wednesday afternoon and according to Sharif’s son Jawad, Maulana Bashir Farooqui will lead the prayers. Later, he will be laid to rest at the Abdullah Shah Gazi graveyard.
Fans and followers have been visiting his residence in Gulshan-e-Iqbal to offer their condolences. Celebrities, politicians, and the late comedian’s fellow stage colleagues have expressed grief at his passing.
The veteran comedian had breathed his last in Germany on October 2. He was hospitalised with pneumonia in Nuremberg, where he had landed for a brief stopover to be later taken to the United States through an air ambulance for medical treatment.
