DG Zahir Shah likely to be appointed NAB deputy chairman

National Accountability Bureau (NAB) Director General Operations Zahir Shah is likely to be appointed as deputy chairman of the bureau, a news outlet reported on Friday.

According to the report, a summary seeking the appointment has been sent to the Law and Justice Division, from where it will be forwarded to the Prime Minister’s Office for approval.

After the consent of Prime Minister Imran Khan, the final approval will be given by President Dr Arif Alvi.

Zahir Shah is currently posted as director general operations at the NAB headquarters.

The position of NAB deputy chairman fell vacant on October 4 after Hussain Asghar tendered his resignation. The resignation was approved by President Alvi.

According to the report, the NAB’s Lahore office had sought permission from its chairman Justice (R) Javed Iqbal in August this year to proceed against Hussain Asghar under embezzlement charges.

A letter was written to the NAB chairman from the Lahore office, seeking approval for an investigation regarding the corruption of Rs300 million allegedly committed by Hussain Asghar.
