ECP summons Azam Swati on Oct 21: report

The Election Commission of Pakistan (ECP) has summoned Federal Minister for Railways Azam Swati on October 21, a news outlet reported on Tuesday.

According to the report, the ECP summoned the minister over his tirade against the election body for opposing the use of electronic voting machines (EVMs) in the next general elections.

The ECP summoned Swati under the charges of contempt of court ordinance, the report sad, adding that “he will be asked to submit replies under the relevant election acts.”

The ECP had previously served notices to Swati and Federal Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry over their remarks on the election body for its objection to the use of EVMs in the next general elections.

Swati had accused the election commission of taking bribes from the companies to manufacture EVMs.
