LAHORE: Due to ‘non-availability’ of funds with the Punjab Labour and Human Resource Department (PL&HRD), the Labour Department of Kasur has started soliciting donations from philanthropists for purchasing office equipment, Pakistan Today has learnt.
According to sources, the PL&HRD has, for the first time, constructed a government building in the compound of the Industrial Relation Institute, the Saeed Ahmed Awan Centre for Improvement of Working Conditions & Environment (SAACIWCE) here in Lahore.
The sources added that labour department Kasur was to be shifted in the said building before Nov 15, 2021 but the said office had no funds for the purchase of office equipment including furniture for conference room and court room meant for the welfare of industrial workers.
The sources revealed that the said department has meanwhile decided to contact philanthropists and effluents with a request to donate the equipment under Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) so as the public office could be facilitated.
However, the spokesman for the PL&HRD informed this scribe that there was no shortage of funds for the department but it could be a possibility that the funds are being released in phases. The spokesperson added that it was also under the provision of the PL&HRD to ask for donations from private sector as the officials required equipment for the welfare of the labour.
“Even, in the past, some companies used to donate laptops, chairs, tables and other items to the department for the welfare of the labour,” he maintained.
