ISLAMABAD: Adviser to the PM on Finance Shaukat Tarin has expressed satisfaction over the stability in sugar prices and stressed for appropriate measures to create strategic reserves of sugar in the country for smooth supply of the commodity in coming months.
The advisor said this while chairing a meeting of the National Price Monitoring Committee to review prices of essential commodities on Wednesday.
The adviser emphasised that lower international prices be passed on to the domestic consumers. He directed the provincial governments to take punitive action against fertilizer hoarders and make availability of fertilizers at controlled rates.
The adviser directed the Petroleum Division to take measures for availability of sufficient stocks of Kerosene oil in the market. He expressed satisfaction over prices of commodities in Sastaa Bazaars in Balochistan and Sindh and further directed to establish such bazaars in more cities to provide maximum relief to the people.
The meeting was briefed about the weekly Sales Price Index situation that increased by 1.07 percent during the week under review.
The meeting was apprised that prices of 10 essential commodities including onion, potatoes and cooking oil registered decline while 14 items remained stable during the last week. The prices of wheat flour bags remained consistent at 1100 rupees per 20 kg while sugar are also easing out due to the proactive measures of Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad administration.
