CM Buzdar hopes Lahore Technopolis will attract international universities

Punjab Chief Minister Sardar Usman Buzdar, while speaking to a delegation led by Punjab Higher Education Minister Raja Yasir Humayun, stated that international universities will establish their campuses in the Lahore Technopolis.

He went on to state that attention would be paid to research on emerging technologies and state-of-the-art products.

He said the project would be a game-changer for the new generation. Chief Minister Buzdar said modern education was the right of every child and the government was ensuring its implementation. Due to the educational friendly policies of the government, 21 universities of the country had been included in the world and Asian rankings, he said.

The chief minister also announced that the government was going to introduce the concept of smart universities in the province. The minister informed the chief minister about measures taken by the government in the higher education sector.

The chief minister said the scheme would get all the benefits under the Special Technology Zone Act (STZA) and tax exemption for 10 years. Enterprises operating in the zone will get exemption from property and Punjab Revenue Authority (PRA) services taxes for 10 years.

The chief minister said the previous government didn’t take any practical steps but only announced projects. He said the Lahore Knowledge Park project was proof of the incompetence of past rulers as it had remained merely in the files for 10 years.

He further stated that the PTI government had started work on the Lahore Technopolis project, which was being set up under the vision of ‘Excellence in knowledge and enterprise’.

Meanwhile, Chief Minister Buzdar appreciated the performance of the Cabinet Committee for Law & Order, police, administration and law enforcement agencies for making excellent security arrangements for Quaid-i Azam Day and Christmas celebrations.

He said the departments concerned had performed their duties efficiently and wholeheartedly. He praised the coordination in this regard of the agencies and departments concerned.

Separately, CM Buzdar re-named the Gulberg Jail Road Flyover as Munir Niazi Flyover on the 15th death anniversary of the renowned poet. He directed the Lahore Development Authority (LDA) director general to display the new name of the flyover.
