Nazir Ahmed convicted of sexual offences

A British court on Wednesday convicted Nazir Ahmed, a former British parliamentarian of PakĀistan descent, of serious sexual assault against two children in the 1970s.

According to a news outlet, the court found Nazir, who had denied all the charges, guilty of a serious sexual assault against a boy and the attempted rape of a girl.

The Sheffield Crown Court heard the repeaĀted sexual abuse happened in Rotherham, Yorkshire, when the former MP was a teenager.

Prosecutor Tom Little told the court Nazir had attempted to rape the girl in the early 1970s, when the defendant was aged 16 or 17 but she was much younger. The attack on the boy, who was aged under 11 at the time, also happened during the same period.

Nazir was charged alongside his two older brothers, Mohammed Farouq, 71, and Mohammed Tariq, 65, but both were deemed unfit to stand trial.

The judge, Mr Justice Lavender, bailed Nazir to appear at the same court for sentencing on February 4.
