PM felicitates govt for achieving 5.37pc GDP growth

Prime Minister Imran Khan has applauded and greeted members of his government on achieving the gross domestic product (GDP) growth of 5.37 percent during 2020-21, resulting in a rise in per capita income.

Taking to Twitter, the prime minister said that his government has achieved a GDP growth of 5.37 percent in three years, leading to substantial jobs creation.

He said the success of his government’s economic reforms has been recognised at world level and Bloomberg has predicted that Pakistan will sustain a high growth trajectory and employment levels.

He said since the outbreak of Covid pandemic, Pakistan has been ranked amongst top three countries on a normalcy index, indicating saving jobs and saving lives, and added that The Economist recognised this in its latest normalcy index.

Federal Minister for Planning and Development Asad Umar, while addressing a news conference in Faisalabad on Thursday last, had said that the last year had witnessed the second-fastest growth in the country and had led to an increase in the per capita income of Pakistanis by US $200 to $1,666.

“The growth in 2020-21 was 5.37 percent,” Umar had said in a tweet, adding that the National Accounts Committee (NAC), a government body that reviews the economic indicators, had approved the revised estimate of GDP growth.
