KARACHI: Sindh government decided to announce head money on Zohaib Ali Qureshi, prime suspect in the 2019 kidnapping of a young girl, who escaped from police custody in January.
In December 2019, Mangi, then 20, was snatched by men in a car from a street in the Defence Housing Authority neighbourhood of Karachi. She returned home a week later but her kidnappers are still at large.
Sindh police chief Mushtaq Mahar will write a letter to the provincial home department, recommending a reward of Rs5 million for anyone who assists police in the arrest of Qureshi.
The police decided to announce head money to take help from the public after the suspect was able to flee from the police custody owing to the negligence of the court officials.
The accused was in police’s custody and was presented before the court in the kidnapping cases before he fled from a shopping mall in the Tariq Road neighbourhood, a police spokesperson told the media.
