Pakistan to host Saudi crown prince, OIC foreign ministers next month

ISLAMABAD: The authorities are making arrangements to host the Saudi crown prince and other high-ranking officials due in Islamabad in March, Pakistan Today has learnt.

Well-placed diplomatic sources informed Pakistan Today that Islamabad and Riyadh are finalising the dates for the visit of Mohammed bin Salman while arrangements are also being made to host an extraordinary session of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) also taking place in the federal capital.

The sources said the visit of the crown prince is important given the increasing cooperation between the two nations in trade and investment while Saudi Arabia is also keen to secure a deal with the military to help secure itself against attacks from Iran-aligned Houthi rebels.

The sources say Pakistan is also set to host the regular conference of foreign ministers of OIC nations on March 22 which would take place in the Parliament House.

It is expected that foreign ministers of OIC would also be invited to witness the Pakistan Day parade, the sources said.

Prime Minister Imran Khan is keen for the crown prince must to attend the annual Pakistan Day parade as a guest of honour.

“However, the two sides are in touch to finalise the modalities of the visit of Mohammed bin Salman,” the sources said.

It merits a mention here that the Saudi prince last toured Pakistan in February 2019.
