LAHORE: Speaker Punjab Assembly and PML-Q senior leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi Tuesday demanded immediate repeal of the amendment in PECA Ordinance.
During a meeting with a delegation representing the Media Joint Action Committee (JAC) here, Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi fully supported the demands of the JAC.
During the discussion, the Speaker Punjab Assembly said that imposing any kind of restriction on media freedom is not in our interest.
He further added that the PECA Ordinance discriminates against the journalist community and the people.
Pervez Elahi also said that media is the fourth pillar of the state and we fully believe in its independence. Freedom of media is also very important for the development of Pakistan, he added.
Elahi said that independent media was essential for the security and survival of Pakistan.
