KP govt completes Dir Motorway feasibility  

PESHAWAR: The Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (KP) government has approved the PC-1 of the much-awaited Dir motorway which will be completed at the cost of Rs38 billion.

The PC-1 of the project said that it will be 30 km long four lines road with two tunnels. The Pakhtunkhwa Highways Authority officials said that after the completion of feasibility report of the project, the relevant forum has also approved of the project construction.

The sources said that bids have also been invited till March 10 to hire a contractor to formally start construction work on the much-awaited road project.

Starting from Chakdara Interchange, Malakand and Swat River, the road will connect Lower Dir through Och and Ramyal towns. After its completion, it will be possible to travel at a speed of 60 km per hour. The new motorway will be two tunnels for 625 meters and 6,230 meters.

The government believes that the construction of Dir Motorway will attract influx of tourists in Lower Dir, Chitral and other connected areas which will generation employment opportunities.

The officials are of the view that the construction of Dir Motorway will save both time and resources in term of transportation.

A government official hoped, “Completion of this geographically important motorway will not only boost tourism but will also enhance develop trade, industry and agriculture in the mountainous region. It will usher in a new era of development and prosperity.”
