RAWALPINDI: The Frontier Works Organisation (FWO), under the supervision of Rawalpindi Development Authority (RDA), has initiated the execution work on Rawalpindi Ring Road project.
Chairman RDA Tariq Mehmood Murtaza on Monday inaugurated the construction work and cut the ribbon for the project’s execution at Thallian.
Director General RDA Tahir Zafar Abbasi, Chief Engineer RDA Dr Habibul Haq Randhawa and FWO team’s incharge Col Muhammad Irfan were also present on the occasion.
Tariq Mehmood Murtaza said that the construction work of 38.3-km main carriageway from Baanth (N-5) to Thallian (M-2) under Rawalpindi Ring Road project would be completed in two years.
He said the RDA has awarded Rs22.8 billion contract to the FWO for the mega project. He requested the FWO to speed up the work on the project.
He said the basic aim of the project is to ease congestion on the urban transportation system of twin cities.
On the occasion, the chief engineer gave a detailed presentation on the project. He said the government of Punjab had approved Rs33694.43 million for the project, adding that the project’s land acquisition cost will be Rs6724.73 million and the project’s construction cost will be Rs26969.70 million.
The project would cater the traffic issues by providing an alternative bypass by connecting N-5 with M-2, he added.
