PESHAWAR: The district administrations failed to control prices of essential food items across Khyber Pakhtunkhwa as the traders have raised the prices in violation of officials price list.
But the Peshawar district administration claim that on the instructions of provincial government, action is being taken against the vendors over price-hike and artificial shortage of food items. Â but the price-hike in Peshawar could not be curbed and it continues tease consumers.
Consumers complained that in recent days, the price of ghee and chicken have increased manifold in Peshawar and other parts of the province. The price of ghee has gone up to Rs 500 per kg while chicken has gone up to Rs 321 per kg.
According to Muhammad Hussain, a resident of Peshawar, prices of flour, ghee, vegetables, fruits, meat and chicken have been steadily rising despite no increase in petrol prices by the government.
In the open market, the price of first grade ghee has increased from Rs 450 to Rs 500 per kg. Similarly, the prices of vegetables and pulses have also increased during the last week. The price of chicken has gone up by Rs 26 in a single day and now it is available at Rs 321 per kg.
Consumers demanded that a concrete plan is needed to control food inflation. They urge the government to take an effective action against hoarders of essential food items.
