Pak Army, Navy, Rangers on streets to help civilians deal with unprecedented rains

The Pakistan Navy in its humanitarian assistance and disaster relief activities in rain affected areas of creeks conducted relief operations and helped locals draw standing water from houses in different areas.

Pakistan Navy was present in the area at the request of the civil administration and was constantly monitoring the situation under Operation Madad (assistance), said the Pakistan Navy spokesman in a news release received here.

All field units of Pakistan Navy were issued orders to provide all possible assistance to the people in case of any emergency, he said.

Earlier, the Pakistan Navy Directorate General of Public Relations on its official Twitter handle shared that the Pakistan Navy Humanitarian Assistance Disaster Relief (HADR) Operations in collaboration to provincial disaster management authority of Sindh continued in various areas of Karachi.

The rescue operations aimed to support marooned populace during torrential rains, it said. Pakistan Navy troops were reaching out to deep localities and stood with nation midst challenges of severe urban flooding.

Meanwhile, Brig Shafiq Awan revealed that Army troops and Rangers are busy in relief efforts Unprecedented and unexpected rain spell hit Karachi especially southern part. In last 6-8 hrs only 106 mm of rain record in few areas of Karachi . All Nullahs including Gujjar, Orangi and Mehmoodabad are working at their optimum capacity. Water will recede in due course of time. In this critical moment, Besides CBC and DHA, Pak Army and Rangers are busy in relief efforts .

As per sources, 388 dewatering teams of civil administration/ Army / Rangers are continuously busy in dewatering. Major Nullahs are flowing at full capacity. Once the Nullahs are flowing at full capacity, then dewatering is the only solution to clear areas under water .

Meanwhile, the disaster management authorities were busy in relief operations in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa today after two people were killed and three injured during rains and floods in Swabi, Malakand, Dera Ismail Khan, Tank and Nowshera.

According to authorities, the fast-flowing waters swept away houses and schools in the areas leading to severe damage to the infrastructure.

KP Chief Minister Mahmood Khan has instructed all the agencies to remain on high alert, while teams have been dispatched to rescue stranded people.

Separately, the PDMA has said that its control room was active 24/7 and urged people to report any untoward incident to the helpline 1700.
