LAHORE: Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi carried out a bureaucracy reshuffle, begun shortly after he took oath as chief minister of Punjab in the wee hours of Wednesday.
The Establishment Division removed Lahore Capital City Police Officer (CCPO) Bilal Siddique Kamyana from his post.
A notification for this effect was issued Wednesday morning and he was directed to report to the Intelligence Bureau (IB).
The Punjab government appointed Kamyana, a deputy inspector general (DIG) of police, to head the Lahore police on April 28.
He was among over a dozen senior police officers who were repatriated from Punjab to the Establishment Division during the tenure of the Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) government “for being close to the Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (PML-N)”.
The posting order of Kamyana, who served on various posts in the federal institutes, as Lahore CCPO was issued directly from the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO).
The new chief minister also appointed Muhammad Khan Bhatti, Punjab Assembly secretary and a loyalist, as his principal secretary. Inayatullah Lak, Bhatti’s deputy, meanwhile took over the post of his now-former boss.
Shahzad Shaukat, the advocate general, and his deputy Chaudhry Jawad Yaqub also resigned from their positions.
In his resignation note sent to the governor, Shaukat said since it was Hamza Shehbaz, Elahi’s predecessor, who appointed him and now he was no more in the office, he did not consider it morally appropriate to get on with his duties.
He also returned the official vehicle issued to him by the outgoing government.
Seperately, law officers who worked under Shaukat held a farewell meeting with him and applauded him for his services.
