Flood, hill torrents wreak havoc in Rajanpur, Rojhan, Taunsa

QADIRABAD: Flash floods triggered by heavy rainfall and hill torrents devastated various areas in Rajanpur, Rojhan and Taunsa on Friday.

According to district administration and Provincial Disaster Management Authority (PDMA), flood water wrecked rural areas in the three tehsils including Rajanpur, Rojhan and Taunsa. They said that a large number of people have started moving to safe places on their own.

Furthermore, standing crops over 27,860 acres of land have also been affected due to heavy rains. It has been recommended to declare flood affected areas of Rajanpur as calamity.

On the other hand, hundreds of houses have been destroyed and the bodies of seven more people have been recovered within 24 hours in Lasbela.

The National Highway has also been cut off from Uthal Khanta River and Landa River, while the relief operation of Pakistan Army is underway.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Friday instructed to speed up relief activities for the people affected by flood in River Chenab.

Pervaiz Elahi while directing to accelerate relief activities in Rajanpur, Rojhan and Taunsa said that providing relief to the affected people should be done on priority.

“We will not leave victims alone in such difficult hours,” said the CM.

PDMA issues alert of high flood in Chenab

The Flood Forecasting Division has issued warning that water flow in River Chenab at Akhnor has reached 273,950 cusec and is rising continuously. The spokesperson for the Provincial Disaster Management Authority has issued alert of high level flood in Chenab River.

The PDMA said that high level flood is expected in River Chenab at Marala, Khanki and Qadirabad during the next 24 to 48 hours. All relevant departments have been directed to remain alert and complete their preparations.

The PDMA also advised all the authorities concerned to take all-out measures for evacuation of people from affected areas.
