New monsoon spell to lash Sindh, Karachi from August 5

Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) has forecast a new monsoon spell — fourth one — entering in Sindh, including Karachi, which may cause rainfall from August 5 to 8.

Provincial capital Karachi may receive showers from August 6 to 8.

The intensity of rain has not been forcast. Sindh has seen ruthless torrential rains, as per the PMD cumulative rainfall data for the entire province, Karachi received the highest amount of rainfall which was 348 millimeters, after Padidan, which received 548 millimeters of rain in July.

Within Karachi, the highest amount of downpour was reported in Masroor Base amounting to 606mm during the current month followed by 587mm in Gulshan-e-Hadeed and 524mm in DHA. The least amount of rainfall was reported in Gadap Town (165mm) and Korangi (183mm).

Karachi, largest and most populous city of country, is highly vulnerable to climate-related disasters, given its ‘weak infrastructure’.

Weak moist currents from Arabian Sea are penetrating in upper and central parts of the country as westerly wave is affecting western and upper parts of the country.

The met office forcast rain-wind/thundershower in Kashmir, upper/central Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa? Gilgit-Baltistan, eastern and southern Balochistan. Hot and Humid weather is expected in other parts of the country on Wednesday (today).

In past 24 hour weather, rain-wind/thundershower occurred in Gilgit-Baltistan, upper Punjab, Upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Karachi. Hot and humid weather prevailed in other parts of the country.

Tuesday’s Highest Maximum Temperatures (°C): Dalbandin 43, Nokkundi 42 and Dadu 41.
