Punjab desirous of maintaining best ties with US: Elahi

LAHORE: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday said that Pakistan and US have been enjoying good friendly relations and the Punjab government is desirous of maintaining the best relations with the US.

“Pakistan and US relations have witnessed various ups and downs but these relations have always emerged stronger and enhanced,” Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi said while talking to US Consul General William K Makaneole who called on him at Chief Minister’s House here on Thursday.

On the occasion, the US consul general congratulated Pervaiz Elahi on becoming the chief minister and expressed good wishes for him. Both discussed matters of mutual interest including the expanding bilateral cooperation in different sectors.

The CM held that Pakistan-US relations have witnessed ups and downs and added that the Punjab government is desirous of maintaining the best relations with the US.

“Pakistan is a peaceful country and desirous of friendly relations with neighbouring countries,” CM Elahi said, adding that all the citizens, including religious minorities, enjoy equal rights under the Constitution of Pakistan while the incumbent government has been following a policy of composite development by focusing on the welfare of the people.

On the occasion, William K. Makaneole stated that the US attaches great importance to its relations with Pakistan and cooperation in different sectors will be further expanded with the Punjab government.

Child abusers do not deserve any exemption

Punjab Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi on Thursday said that the working parameters of Child Protection and Welfare Bureau (CPWB) need to be extended to all district of the province.

According to details, the chief minister made these remarks during a meeting with Child Protection Bureau Chairperson Sarah Ahmad. During the meeting, Sarah Ahmad briefed CM Pervaiz Elahi on the performance of CPWB in the province.

Speaking on the occasion, the chief minister praised the bureau’s role in protection of children’s rights, saying that it was the provincial government’s responsibility to improve the child protection mechanism.

He stressed the need to extend child protection units to all districts of the province. “Elements involved in abuse of children do not deserve any concession,” CM Elahi said, calling for indiscriminate legal action against such people.

The Punjab chief minister also praised the performance of Child Protection and Welfare Bureau, vowing to support the CPWB at any cost.

Message On National Minorities Rights Day

Punjab Chief Minister Ch Pervaiz Elahi in his message on the national Minorities Rights Day said that the religion of Islam lays great emphasis on safeguarding the rights of the minorities and the Constitution of Pakistan provides protection to the basic rights of the minorities. “The minorities enjoy equal rights in Pakistan and the role of minorities in the development and progress of Pakistan cannot be overlooked. It is our resolve to provide equal progress opportunities to the minorities”, CM concluded.

Takes Notice of Badami Bagh Incident

Punjab CM Ch Pervaiz Elahi became the voice of the minorities and took notice of the damage caused to the graveyard of Parsi community near Badami Bagh. He sought a report from the Inspector General of Police in this regard. The CM also directed to provide complete protection to residents of Parsi community in the area, ordering indiscriminate action against the persons found involved in damage caused to the Parsi graveyard. Pervaiz Elahi ordered to bring the elements involved in the harassment of the caretakers of the Parsi community graveyard to law. The CM directed to arrange effective police patrolling system near the Parsi community graveyard along with the establishment of a police-post.
