Centre declines Punjab’s request to change chief secretary

ISLAMABAD: The federal government has declined the Punjab government’s request to change the chief secretary of the province.

Earlier on Thursday, the Punjab government sent a summary to the Centre carrying names of three probable names for replacing the current chief secretary.

In response, the federal government declined the request, saying Kamran Ali Afzal will remain the chief secretary of Punjab.

The Punjab government earlier, decided to change Chief Secretary Kamran Ali Afzal, and it also sent a summary to the federal government for a new chief secretary.

According to the official sources, three names were suggested for the new chief secretary in the Punjab government’s summary which had been sent to the Establishment Division.

The names of Babar Hayat Tarar, Abdullah Sumbal and Ahmed Nawaz Sukhera had been included in the summary.

“The decision for the appointment of a new chief secretary will be taken on the advice of the Prime Minister’s Office,” said the Establishment Division sources.
