Renowned singer Nayyara Noor passed away at 71 in
Karachi after a brief illness on Saturday night, her family announced.
She had been under treatment for the past few days.
The legendary singer’s funeral prayers will be offered at 4pm later today at
Imambargah Yasrab in Defence Housing Authority. She will be laid to rest in
a cemetery at phase eight.
She called Bulbul-e-Pakistan and was conferred with the Pride of Performance
Award by the President of Pakistan in 2006. Earlier, she was also honored
with the Nigar Award in 1973.
She was known for her ghazals Ae Jazba-e-Dil, Woh Jo Hum Mein Tum Mein Qarar
Tha, Aye Ishq Hamay Barbaad Na Kar, and patriotic song Watan Ki Mitti Gawah
Rehna.
Her other work included Barkha Barsay Chhat Per, Mein Teray Sapnay Deikhuun,
Kabhi Hum Bhi Khoobssorat Thay, Jalay Tau Jalao Gori and her most famous.
Noor was one of the most famous playback singers in the country even though
she had no musical background nor had she undergone any formal training in
music.
Born in November 3, 1950, in Assam’s Guwahati, she was aged seven years old
when her family migrated to Pakistan.
In 1968, Noor began singing songs on Radio Pakistan and then on PTV in 1971.
She sung many songs for films and her fans are spread out through the
subcontinent.
