Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government has presented a proposal to provide loans on easy installments to the owners of brick kilns in the province to convert their kilns on zigzag technology for environmental protection.
Official sources said the Environmental Protection Council Khyber Pakhtunkhwa has evaluated a cost of Rs 4 million on conversion of every brick kiln on zigzag technology. The Council has constituted a special committee to provide financial assistance to the owners of brick kilns for transferring the kilns on zigzag system. A three-member committee has also been formed to deal with the legal affairs in this regard.
A meeting of the Environmental Protection Council was told that Rs4 million were required for each brick kiln to be converted on zigzag technique and the provincial government cannot provide this amount from its own exchequer. However, loans on easy installments would be provided to the owners of brick kilns by the Bank of Khyber for this purpose.
The committee to provide loans to brick kilns owners consisted of Dr Hizb Ullah Khan, Dr Rashid Rehan and Engineer Faizan. While the committee for dealing with legal affairs consisted of Justice (Retd) Abdul Latif, Secretary Law, DG Environmental Protection Agency and Deputy Director Legal Environment Protection Agency. The committee would also hold meetings with the brick kilns owners in this regard.
