Zero learning

I have seen and vividly remember a small fraction of huge sacrifices and a tragedy of great proportion by Muslims migrating from India 75 years ago at the time of the creation of Pakistan.

During all these years, I have been carrying a dream that during my lifetime, we will work hard and see a prosperous and developed Pakistan.

Now looking back over all these years, barring some patches, Pakistan’s history has been a tale of massive corruption, poor governance, and sheer greed by its leaders. Over these years we have seen and watched many countries go past us to join the rank of developed countries, or at least made great progress, while we continue to stagnate or deteriorate.

It is this greed for power and corruption by our ‘worthy’ leaders that hardly any elected government has been able to complete its term in office over all these years. We have learnt virtually nothing whatsoever from our turbulent history. In fact, it was this greed and sheer mismanagement of our leaders that deprived us of half of Pakistan 51 years ago.

Now that we have just celebrated the 75th anniversary of our independence, let us remember the huge sacrifices the Muslims of India made for creating Pakistan, and vow to elect honest people of great integrity as our legislators.

If we have not learnt anything from our turbulent history and gross mismanagement, we will all be responsible together for the events that may follow. Pakistan Zindabad!
