Zimbabwe caused one of the biggest upsets in the history of ODI cricket on Saturday as they defeated 5-time World Champions in the third ODI of a 3-match series at the Tony Ireland Stadium in Townsville. This was the first in the history of the 50-over format that Zimbabwe had won a match against Australia in Australia.
Right-arm spinner Ryan Burl was the star of the show for the visitors as he bowled an incredible spell that saw him take five wickets in just three overs while conceding just 10 runs. Tadiwanashe Marumani and skipper Regis Chakabva’s knocks of 35 and 37 with the bat respectively got them over the line.
On a day to forget for the Australian cricket team, Mitchell Starc wrote his name in the history books by completing 200 wickets in the format. Starc reached the milestone after taking the wicket of Ryan Burl in the 37th over of the Zimbabwe innings.
By virtue of his feat, Starc has set a new world record and become the fastest bowler in the history of ODI cricket to take 200 ODI wickets.
He has upstaged legendary Pakistan spinner Saqlain Mushtaq to achieve the record. Starc has also broken Brett Lee’s record of being the quickest Australian to reach the landmark.
