SC moved against Imran Khan’s participation in by-polls

A petition was Monday filed in the Supreme Court against Imran Khan’s participation in the upcoming by-elections on the seats of the National Assembly.

“Imran Khan should be prevented from participating in the by-election until he resigns as Member of the National Assembly,” said the petition.

“Legislation should be ordered for contesting elections on more than one seat. Imran Khan is doing political exploitation by contesting elections on more than one seat,” it added.

“Other political leaders including Imran Khan should not contest elections on more than one seat. Until Imran Khan’s resignation is accepted by the National Assembly, he cannot contest the by-election,” it stated.

“The Supreme Court is an institution for the protection of basic human rights. After the contest of elections on more than one seats, by-elections are held on those seats again. Millions of rupees are spent on by-elections from the national treasury,” it pointed out.

The petition was filed by Mian Asif Mehmood Advocate. Imran Khan, federal government and the election commission were made respondents in the petition.
